The Assignment

114 minutes (18) Columbia Tristar
Director: Christian Duguay
review by Tony Lee

Excellent spy thriller inspired by a true story behind the capture of the infamous terrorist, Carlos the Jackal. Aidan Quinn plays, with great conviction, a US Navy officer pressed into service - way above and beyond normal duty - as the villain's double, by Donald Sutherland's ruthlessly manipulative CIA agent. The plan is to trick the KGB, who control Carlos, into assassinating him as a traitor. From its stunning, slow-motion bomb attack to the gripping final raid on the terrorist's lair, The Assignment is first class entertainment from beginning to end, and simply one of the most riveting espionage dramas yet made.
