Sequelmania continues to afflict our favourite genre, spawning mix'n'match adventure
movies like this strangely SF variation on the sword and sorcery theme.
Marc Singer again dons the loincloth and braces to star as Dar, the telepathic
barbarian capable of communication with animals. In this mildly enjoyable yarn, he
travels by time portal to modern day Los Angeles, in order to prevent the nuclear
destruction of two worlds: the Earth is apparently in a parallel universe to his
magical land. Wings Hauser and Sarah Douglas are the pair of wicked villians causing
untold troubles for our hero, and there's a cute LA heiress caught up in the fantasy
when she drives her car through a timewarp.
With Jim Wynorski contributing to the script, and producer (of Evilspeak and
Dead Ringers) Sylvio Tabet cleverly directing in the free-wheeling style of
early Bob Zemeckis, Beastmaster 2 turns out to be pretty much as you'd expect:
watchable, but nothing spectacular.
