DOWSE Guide to the Movies
by Tony Lee editor of Pigasus Press

Crash

92 minutes (18) Medusa
Director: Charles Wilkinson
review by Christopher Geary

Definitely not to be confused with David Cronenberg's adaptation of J.G. Ballard's cult SF novel, this fairly bog-standard actioner teams a petty crook (Michael Biehn) with a glamorous undercover cop (Leilani Sarelle Ferrer, of Basic Instinct fame), against a horde of heavily armed villains, led by blond Russian giant (Miguel Sandoval). Besides our heroes lives, what's at stake here is an untraceably cool 40 million dollars, and a money launderer's neck - if he (Matt Craven) fails to meet those vital, regular payments to top mafia guy, Ed Lauter. We have been here before, and many times, too. But at least the thoroughly professional cast give of their best, to brighten up the dull exposition and generate a human charge within the frequent and, of course, typically humourless, scenes of gunplay.
