DOWSE Guide to the
Movies
Check out the stats: two cds, 155 minutes of music, 41 tracks. By any
yardstick this is an outstanding package of music. Obviously hitching a ride
on the success of The X-Files, The Cult Files goes much further than other
similar collections. Silva Screen have worked their usual magic and selected
an album of cult TV themes and another album of cult film themes, all
performed as authentically as possible, utilising the original arrangements
where possible. Whether you will consider all the titles to be of 'cult'
status is debatable, but most of these tracks brought back fond memories for
this listener. Among the classic tracks here are The Prisoner, The Saint,
The Avengers, Red Dwarf, Doctor Who, Kojak, Babylon 5,
Star Trek, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, The Omen, Halloween,
The Pink Panther and tons more. There are equally stacks of themes you'd expect to
be here but are missing, so there's always the hope that a volume two will appear one day. review by John M. Peters
