DOWSE Guide to the Movies
by Tony Lee editor of Pigasus Press

Demolition University

86 minutes (18) Warner
Director: Kevin S. Tenney
review by Jeff Young

Demolition University involves stolen nerve gas, the hijacking of a power plant, a plot to poison a city, and stray hostages causing untold grief for heavily armed terrorists. Corey Haim stars as a rogue student football jock out to impress his reluctant girlfriend (Ami Dolenz) by outwitting a bunch of racially stereotyped, incompetent Arab gunmen. Smug soldier boy Todd Allen is thoroughly obnoxious ("Money passes for charm in my country") as the traitorous leader of this weary off-campus actioner, there's an FBI babe who is actually a bright psych profiler but looks great in a miniskirt anyway, while only Robert Forster's army colonel with an ulcer makes much of an impression as a genuine character. Clunky dialogue, crappy actors, and the drama-crushing hand of Jim Wynorski as both producer and 2nd unit director, leaves a great deal to be desired here.
