DOWSE Guide to the
Movies
Films from the Hammer studios had many instantly recognisable
characteristics, not least their outstanding music, and this new collection
of themes written by Hammer's main composer, James Bernard should be of
interest to all fans of the studio. Bernard wrote lush scores for most of
the classic Hammer movies and on this cd you will find themes and suites of
music taken from Kiss Of The Vampire, She, Frankenstein Created Woman,
The Devil Rides Out, The Scars Of Dracula, and a specially arranged
'Quatermass' Suite. Newly recorded in digital format by the Westminster Philharmonic and
the City of Prague orchestras, and conducted by Kenneth Alwyn, Paul Bateman
and Nic Raine, this cd is a joy to listen to. Not least because you don't
have to put up with the atrocious prints that are all that seem to exist on
video or TV. Definitely one for all Hammer fans. review by John M. Peters
