Raw Nerve
Director: Avi Nesher
98 minutes (18) High Fliers rental
review by Ian Shutter
Mario Van Peebles plays a psycho cop in this low budget yet gripping thriller who bullies
former partner, Zach Galligan, and trusting girlfriend, Nicollette Sheridan, into aiding and
abetting him in a scheme to rob a money laundering outfit. The plan goes awry, of course, and
mad Mario goes off his trolley shortly thereafter. What the trio get for their troubles is a
bag stuffed with two million dollars when they expected just a fraction of that, which means
the mafia will hunt them down and there's no place to hide.
Avi Nesher is a cult director who seems to have a knack for gritty action,
often with a genre element, or odd fantasy comedy (She with Sandahl Bergman,
Doppelganger with Drew Barrymore, Timebomb with Michael Biehn) and this confirms
his reputation as an independent filmmaker of worth.
