What Women Want
various, Columbia
review by Dave W. Hughes
Mel Gibson strikes again! From what I can gather, the basic premise behind the film is that the
character Gibson plays can hear what women are thinking. The music from the film features a host of
established singers with
many of the song titles reflecting the main reason why they've probably been used in the film: Sammy
Davis Jnr's Something's Gotta Give, Sinatra's Too Marvellous For Words, Tony Bennet's
The Good Life, Alan Silvestri's Everything About You and the rather later Meredith
Brooks' Bitch. Sinatra has more than the one song as well as Bobby Darin, Lou Rawls, and ol'
Nancy Sinatra as well. There's 14 tracks in all, and whilst there's only a couple of newer songs,
there's no denying the quality of the majority, especially when you scan the names. If there was a
song that captures the true feel of the film, though, it has to be Christine Aguillera's What A
Girl Wants, of which, Gibson already knows!
